The system was installed on a Wirtgen W1000 machinery, an asphalt mill. High flows in the fuel supply system imposed the use of high precision flowmeters. Deutz engines use main engine activated centrifugal pumps for fuel supply, running at variables flow rates, thus raising the complexity of the measurement. Since the consumption figure is fairly high, the differential approach with data interpretation proved feasible. This is a classical case where the ratio between fuel consumption and fuel supply determines the measurement approach – differential or direct.
